TIME TO EXPLORE
GuysAdventures was founded to offer exclusive, irresistible trips for gay guys to sample the sights and sounds of the world’s hottest destination.
No matter your orientation, kink, quirk, lifestyle, identity or occasional dalliance, Australia is a fabulous place to explore.
Australia’s views on the LGBTQIA+ community have evolved and advanced significantly since the 1970s, and we’re the proud home to The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras celebrations that make global headlines each year.
These days there are LGBTQIA+ friendly spots to discover from coast to coast, from Australia’s rugged snowy peaks, to its dripping tropics and rippling deserts, and everywhere in between. We are truly spoilt for choice.
Thankfully, there’s so much more to Australia’s gay scene than the Sydney Mardi Gras – which is now barely even the tip of the rainbow-coloured iceberg. And, seriously, who only wants to see just the tip? After all, this is a country that somehow produced Kylie Minogue and Ian Roberts—one of the toughest guys ever to pull on a football jersey, anywhere on the planet. It’s also home to Peter Allen, Ruby Rose, Cate Blanchett and Kath & Kim.
Modern, queer Australia is the extraordinary love child of all of these remarkable characters—a human platypus—bits and bobs from seemingly unrelated beasts pieced together into something unlike any creature the world has ever seen.
So, come! Join GuysAdventures in the Commonwealth of Priscilla, explore Oz, its emerald cities and great outdoors, meet fab guys, sample fine fare and raise a glass or two—OK, OK, definitely more than two—and add your own unique self to the platypus that is Gay Australia.
Booked your next holiday before digging out your passport? Just found out that it’s expired? Don’t fret! Australia Post has all your passport concerns covered. Whether you need to apply for, or renew your passport, your local posties can help. Don’t forget you can get your deadpan mugshot taken at participating post offices too, for a one-stop-shop.
The Australian Government’s Smartraveller site is a very useful guide for planning your trip. Suggestions and advice on individual countries and their current political climate, health and weather warnings, and other pertinent information. You can even find a page specific to LGBTQIA+ travel, such as local laws and customs for your destination, and advice should things go south while you’re away.
Smartraveller also has useful information on safe travel, including consulate contact details, insurance buying guides and guides for Aussies returning home from their overseas adventures.
Been
Ever wanted one of those scratch off world maps to visually track where in the world you’ve been? Well now you have one in your pocket. Been lets you show off your globetrotting prowess to anyone who is bold enough to glance at your phone screen over the table at the bar.
Splitwise
Travelling with a buddy? Instead of holding a grudge because they haven’t paid you back for last night’s dinner, even though they say they have, pop all expenses into Splitwise. The app keeps track of who owes who, and for what, so that you can settle those $1.04 debts quickly and easily.
Your choice of VPN
Even an important tool for domestic travellers, a VPN is a good way to keep your information safe from prying eyes. While we love free Wi-Fi with our coffee, these unprotected networks are a hacker’s playground. If you do any banking, ticket buying, room booking or even email answering whilst on these networks, a VPN will wrap it before someone taps it.
Your phone’s wallet app
Keep a copy of everything here. Your flight tickets, accommodation bookings, travel cards, and credit cards. When you’re an Apple or Android user, all your payment information is encrypted, so if you lose your phone, your cards are safe. Having everything in the one place makes life a whole lot easier when you’re trying to check in but have panic-stashed your wallet at the bottom of your luggage, your paperwork in that super secret compartment in your backpack, and your passport… somewhere…?
